How many of you are still using AmigaOS 3.x ?
« on: November 12, 2008, 06:06:13 AM »
Hi.
 I was wondering how many of you are still using AmigaOS 3.x (Preferably 3.9) as their main OS, or boot from their 3.x partition at least twice a week.
 Please reply only if you use it for purposes other than just gaming. :-)

I'm using AmigaOS 3.9 as my main OS. I also use MorphOS quite frequently. Both running on an Amiga 1200.

@Voyager74
 There are no game incompatibilities with AOS 3.9 to my knowledge. As for Apps/utils, i can only think of ARQ. Visage still works, but it has to be started from CLI or something. I read that ImageFX had some minor problems but they have been fixed, iirc.

 Why do you use OS3.0 on your A1200s?  :-)

I'm glad to see that there are people who actively use the classic AmigaOS like myself! It is as lightweight as an OS can be. It's fast and responsive even on slow CPUs and, if heavily patched, quite usable and fun to use.

 At the same time though, i feel sad that when i look at the current status of the classic scene, i see an almost dead body. I'm not talking about the development of the OS itself of course, i'm talking about the drop of support from developers who are still around but decided to go OS4/MOS/AROS, exclusively.
 I understand that things need to move on etc, etc, but do you think that AOS3.x deserved to die in favour of these NG OSes or that it deserves to be supported in parallel to those with backports (see AFA_OS) and simultaneous 68k builds? (see Jahc and a few others that i don't recall their names right now) Yes, i do know that the second is not always possible due to missing or outdated OS components.
 A rather rhetorical question for this thread. I know...
