PPPoE on Amigas?
« on: March 25, 2008, 05:10:08 PM »
Hi.
Is PPPoE a problem on Amigas?
I read that only MiamiDX and RoadShow supports this protocol and not Genesis/AmiTCP and MOSNet. Is this correct?

My ISP supports both PPPoA and PPPoE and i have use the above TCP/IP stacks (except roadShow as i don't own OS4) to connect to the internet with PPPoA successfully.
I tried to switch to PPPoE by changing my router's settings while running MiamiDX and my router failed to connect to my ISP. I don't know if this problem is related to MiamiDX at all. What do you think?

Your router has login to your ISP and your Amiga needs only a simple ethernet connection to the router?

No. I said that "I tried to switch to PPPoE by changing my router's settings while running MiamiDX and my router failed to connect to my ISP."
The PPP LED on the router remains off.

Then your tcp/ip stack on amiga doesn't need PPPoE. Its only needed for direct access/login without router.

I have always had the router handle the PPPoE.

Your modem might need to be power-cycled when changing the device connected to it (ie. from the Amiga to the router).

Ok, so if i understand you correctly, the TCP/IP doesn't have to support PPPoE? It's enough when it is supported only by the router?

 Good to hear this! Thanks.

if you want to try PPPoE, probably you have to switch the Multiplexing Method to LLC (in the router settings)

Yes, i know. PPPoE needs LLC multiplexing. It still doesn't connect.
Anyway, since the TCP/IP stack doesn't matter and my router supports PPPoE, it's probably a problem from my ISP.
