I've read somewhere that the 5v from floppy connector should never be used to power the hard drive, but some of you guys are using it without problem, as i undrestand.
Actually i have a 2.5 inch drive but dont have 44pin ribbon cable for it right now. And the other connector is not on the mobo but on the FastATA 1200, so i can use that 3.5 inch connector. I'm not sure, if the machine will stay taht way(or i'll get 2.5" cable), but long 3.5" cable solves the hdd mounting problem, as i've removed the shield. I folded the cable like Z under the drive with rubber bands and it perfectly supports hard disk inside dsktop case.
One more question: is the 5v pin in floppy connector brown or red one? I left my multimeter at my parents house 120miles away and will not get it back in a week, so i'm unable to check the voltages.
I suspect the correct one is brown instead of red.
