Been working on my A2000 and A2386SX bridgeboard and it's been giving me fits, to say the least.

My hard drive controller is a GVP Impact A2000 HC+8 Series II with Guru ROM v. 6.13.

I got to wondering if the source of my problems might be the controller and am considering replacing it in hopes of resolving my problems.

However, I realize there is a dearth of controllers out there and not sure which one to replace it with.

So, how about a discussion about the pros and cons of the various hard drive controllers for the A2000?

Comments regarding ease of use, flexibility, and compatibility with bridgeboards would be appreciated.

This discussion could also be used as a future reference for other users down the line.

So, tell us what you've got.  Why you selected it.  Vagaries of its use.  Etc., etc. etc.

the gvp controller has nothing to do with the bridgeboard problem.. what exactly are the problems you are having? is the mask and max transfer on the drives set correctly?

remember the ram on the gvp and bridgeboard share the same space and together can only be 8MB. could this be the trouble?

Ok,if ram isnt the trouble one thing you could do is use a 16bit isa sound card with ide:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Creative-CT2950-SB16PNP-ISA-16-bit-Sound-Blaster-Pro-Card-with-IDE-Interface-/321793807304?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aec67d3c8

this would give you both ide and sound and is 16bit ISA ide interface.
Not sure why you would want a ultra slow 8bit XTIDE on a 16bit isa bus.
I seem to remember something about the hard drive table,I thought it had a selection for custom drive setup or something where you could enter cyls heads/cyls and such, but i may be mistaken.

i remember using a card like this for my old setup; http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-bit-ISA-IDE-FLOPPY-GAME-PRINTER-controller-for-XT-286-386-486-Motherboards-/141699845780?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20fdf80e94

they were like $5.99 back in the day lol.

I ran sxserv16.lha on aminet with my bridgeboard.
