Last of the PCD-60B scsi card readers
« on: June 28, 2013, 03:50:49 PM »
Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you know mechware is down to 31-pcd-60b card readers and when they are gone they are probably gone for good.

If you are contemplating getting one of these now may be the time.

I had 5-Pcd-47b's listed a few days ago and they sold out the same day.

My sources for more have dried up.

They can be found here:

I'm just curious as to what are the differences in products between the following:

1) PCD-47b
2) PCD-50b
3) PCD-60b

I did, though, buy 2 of the PCD-60b for 2 A2000s that I've got.  How difficult would it be to fit the PCD-60b into one of the 3.5" floppy knock-outs?

I didn't even know that a SCSI multi-card reader was available as a product.  I wish I knew sooner.

The pcd-47b is a 3 slot card reader that mounts as 3 scsi id #'s and does not use LUNS.

the pcd-50 is a 5 slot version that uses SCSI LUNS to address all the slots other than the pcmcia card(which technically is lun0)

The pcd-60b is the 6 slot version, adding a xd picturecard slot, but has a front bezel with a lip around it. It still will fit many 3.5" slots, but sometimes the lip needs sanded down to fit conventional floppy bays. It fits many music samplers as is.Like the pcd-50b,it uses luns to address the slots other than pcmcia.

The last ones sold out earlier today.

I suggested a new thread as user(s) will need to show make, model and what firmware the unit has.

You may also have to post what SCSI controller is used & speed if the processor to get a rough idea which unit is the fastest as some user(s) may want to use CF as their main drive (bootable) if its fast enough to use as a main drive.

All of the pcd-50b/60b's i sold had the latest v1.28 read/write firmware and the pcd-47b's had the latest m3.2 read/write firmwares.
the MFG suggests 4-5MB/s max speed on the card readers and i attained 3.9MB/s with the csppc and a high byte adapter and a fast transcend class 10 SDHC card. The cf came in slightly under. Unfortunately i spent more time testing for compatibility on different controllers than max speed.

They aren't the fastest thing around, but for hot swapping and just being a handy low power quiet solution they are great.

The acard + ide-cf adapter is quicker, and you will likely attain max speed, but no hot swapping. On slower, older controllers it is likely not to be faster than the card readers. It will shine on good scsi controllers like the warpengine, cyberstorms, gvp 4060,etc.
