umm,I think you mean 44 pins for 2.5" ide
40 pin is for 3.5" devices

Make sure the drive is in label side up, and that the cable is connected on all 40 pins.
That's all there is to it.
Oh yeah, make sure it's the right 40 pins on the drive. As above, there's usually a separate set of 4 you won't use.
