About the only solution i can think of to replace tall drives is to glue some small plastic strips to the pcd-50b bezel to make up for the space.. not ideal but it works and looks ok when done right.

Nice looking 2000 there vlabguy!

Surprised he doesn't keep his site linked to his sig. Here it is anyway:

...so, is there a bezel or other solution that would make this more attractive an an A2000 case?

I have one and it works great in my A2000. Mine doesn't boot from CF and he sells one with a PCMCIA adapter that does boot CF attached to them. I assume its because the CF is a removable disk and not seen as an HD, but once installed in the PCMCIA adapter it is.

They have the capability to boot off any slot, you just have to enable LUNS to use it. Happy to walk you through setup if you like. its quite easy.

Actually, that sounds great - so long as the adapter was the same color, etc. I could care less about CD-ROM capability on my Amigas *IF* the SCSI CF/SD card reader actually works as advertised. Especially on a 68000/3.1/2091 system. Experience working with SCSI and my spidey-senses tell me it's too good to be true. I'm not even asking for removable on the fly USB-type support, but if you could use a CF or SD card as a vehicle to get information to and fro without a bunch of strange read/write errors all the time, well, guess I'd be surprised. And impressed. And would have to purchase...  lol

I can't quite figure the AMIGA community out at times. I announced these card readers a good while back. Many of you have bought them and are using them now. It seems most make assumptions instead of reading the info or simply asking(save2600 did ask btw). Most seem afraid to email me for help and i am always just a email away either here or the store. I was slow getting info out,but for those who emailed me,we had their reader up and working on their amiga in 10 mins in most cases.SCSi isn't black magic, and these card readers are not voodoo, they do work. The biggest problem i see if people don't educate them on the basics of how scsi work, its very simple in most cases and a little knowledge goes along way. Some other cases they are using old badly implimented scsi controllers or old roms. This is not the fault of scsi, blame the maker of the card. What is worse i guess is the forums are filled with scsi MIS-Information. This gets repeated over the years.
Just so everyone knows, when you buy a card reader from me,i do stand behind it,and i will give person one on one help if you need it.

Sorry to hijack your thread!

Guilty! sorry about that!

Many times the grease hardens on the floppy stepper worm gears. you can take a toothpick and remove all the old grease and add a tiny amount(TINY!) of new lithium grease.

Cleanthe heads with isopropyl alcohol and blow the drive out well with air, cleaning the disk switches helps with contact cleaner too.

i have saved tons of so called "junk" drives that way.

SO what up with my A2000 floppy drive.. HELLO. hijacked thread..hehe.  I could do away with the internal floppy put in a blank go with a SD card reader in the back + an external Floppy. :).

Mechy wrote a reply recently that was rather thorough and I have 100% confidence in his products and ability to sqaure things away if/when there are problems. I don't believe SCSI to be "black magic", but I have run across my fair share of completely idiotic and unexplainable behaviors dealing with SCSI all these years.

Latest one has to do with a Plextor CD writer where the 2091 card stubbornly refuses to boot the HD quickly as it would if there were a non-writer installed. With a CD in the drive, the 2091 card *does* allow for a quicker boot, but is still not as fast to get off its ass upon a reset/cold boot. And yes, all settings and config scenarios have been covered. *This* is the sole reason I'm even considering one of his SCSI<>card readers, BUT... I've got another question about his reader, which I'll do in a PM.   :)

The best and only way to get great scsi is to have it on the accelerator, its usually night and day speed wise. All these old cards like the 2091 do work, but are zorro2 and slow. Adding at least 512K ram or more to the 2091 makes it quicker also, since it can DMA to it.Updating the 2091 WD scsi chip helps when you are using more than one drive and impliments the full scsi II command set properly-Problems can creed up with more than 1 drive with the old WD-04 chips(proto makes no diff). There were many buggy amiga scsi cards out there and some accelerators with bad scsi(apollo cough!)

the zorro3 A4091(rev 7 roms) and fastlane z3 have good scsi though.

Most problems can be easily explained.
