Rick,A+ certified from 1998 to present, As soon as I saw Matthew Broderick and the WOPR,(War Games) I was about 10yrs old and was immediatley hooked.
Is repairing computers a fun or frustrating thing to do?
Used to be fun, then it became frustrating. I think I've burned out on it, especiialy the "population demographic" here = totally computer illiterate. (hate to say it but its true) I prefer linux boxen nowadays just to avoid burnout.
What is the pay for repairing computers?
From $10 to $120 per hour depending on the specifics, but try billing someone $200 plus for a detailed job when they know a new machine can be had for $200-$300.
Is providing customers with information hard to do with you knowing alot about computers?
No and yes. Providing information is easy, but customer comprehension of said info can vary greatly. (here at least)
Was your decision in chosing to repair computers a good one?
I'd say the jury is "still out" regarding that question. It did provide some personal-networking opportunities.
If you could chose another career besides repairing computers, what would it be?
Reapairing computers never actually mounted to a full "career" per se. Wouldn't mind being artst/writer/director , but it requires talent I may not possess.
Is there any advice you would like to let other people who want to become computer technicians that you can give?
To make the job truly pay off, I'd have to say get in with a major PC vendor or IT megafirm of some sort, IBM,DELL, et al
Get on their IT administration staff. Much wiser route imho.
