Wow, I can only come up with one off the wall idea, any chance that the monitor was subjected to any kind of magnetic field during storage?  Saw something similar once, in a tv set, having the screen degaussed fixed it.  Sorry I can't be of more help.  Regards...Art

That sounds familiar,"snapping noises".  Seems like I had a television that did that, I think it had something to do with the flyback transformer maybe.  Been a real long time ago.  Wish I could be more help.  Regards...Art
