That board looks quite bad (from the photo). Those two capacitors could be causing problems if they have leaked. But then again your black screen would be a misconfiguration issue. Double-check all jumper settings. If you have an accelerator board, those need to be setup right. You don't need to plug in the daughter board to boot, however it's best you do so to eliminate any possible issues.
