quick newbie question
« on: July 26, 2006, 04:41:02 PM »
Does the A3000 require a CPU board in the Fast slot in order to run?   Or does the A3000 have an on-board processor on the motherboard, and the fast slot would be just for an upgrade?

Just curious, I have an amiga3000 with an empty fast slot, and I'm wondering if that's why it won't boot.

Thanks!

Jeremy

Hey guys,   thanks for the tips!!  I've kinda blindly worked with the jumpers and I've got the machine now to the point where it gives me the amiga checkmark asking me to insert a disk....

So, here's where I'm at.  The machine does have a hard drive in it, and I was assuming it would boot from the hard drive.   I did see it boot from the hard drive once during my several power on/power off's, but haven't seen it boot from the hard drive since.  I've tried feeding it several disks,  mostly games, but one of them was a workbench 2.0 disk, and it acts like it' trying to read, the screen goes blank (purple) then it drops me back to the amiga checkmark.    what's going on here?  Any ideas?

Thanks!

Jeremy

Alright, I am able to get the 3000 to boot from the HD when I turn the machine on holding both mouse buttons to enter the "bios".   I choose the hard drive, and the thing boots just fine...

Now, here's my newest dillema... It still won't boot from any floppy disks, and I also have attached a working external amiga floppy drive, and it won't boot from that either.   When I'm in workbench, if I put a floppy disk into either drive, it gives me  "DF0:???"  or "DF2:???"  depending on the drive I'm using.   SO, it's not able to read disks.  I know the disks are good because they work fine in my Amiga 500.

Any thoughts on what could be going on here?

Thanks!!!

Jeremy

I was using a workbench 2.0 disk, and also tried some amiga games... like Prince of Persia, and Loom.  both legit authentic disks, not copies or pirates or anything.  they just wouldn't read.
