Burning Kickstart ROMS

Hi there,
that might be a stupid question but can you burn (program) your own Kickstart ROMs with an EEPROM programmer. I remember vaguely that a friend of mine burnt Kickstarts for the Amigas.
But that was in 1989.
Any ideas if it's possible and what one needs to make it possible.
