The problem with your theory is I don't know how to program in C so I can't be the programmer of Aladdin 4D, Deron is. I also know a thing or two about computers so can't be the other individual either. Three different people are in fact three different people but feel free to believe what you want.

A large part of the cause of this 'problem' is the way DiscreetFX chooses to present itself (as an entity).
There may or may not be more than one person involved.
You constantly refer to DiscreetFX 'labs' (which I presume is either your mom's basement, or a spare bedroom).
You constantly refer to 'upcoming' or 'in development' products yet show no sign of progress.

Hell you can't even upload a single video of a beta running *on a different platform*, let alone on AmigaOS. If you can't even put enough code together to create a window, or compile the program core without a GUI and show it outputting to a terminal, or even show the current compile errors list... what confidence can anyone have that you are actually working on it, let alone competent enough to have a chance of success. Let alone producing some useful software with enhancements and improvements.

Hell, the original was written *from scratch* in less time than you've been porting this version for which you have the source.

There's nothing wrong with creating a corporate persona which gives the impression of being larger/more polished than in reality. Every company does this. However, this only works if you have some professionalism to back it up.
It all tends to fall apart when you consistently have NO PRODUCTS TO SELL over a several year period. Where's your revenue stream? Do you sell that many copies of croutons/millenium/whatever?

Announcing Video Toaster/Flyer boards for sale as if it were a corporate announcement. Please, unless you have a stock of these (ie a wholesale amount for sale) use Ebay or the classified forums (like everyone else who has one or two for sale).

Constant announcements of Aladdin 4D 'in development' - not even a screenshot, not one line of code, no progress announcements, just constant 'we'll have to check with the guys down at the crimelab.' Please.

Then there's the whole farce with A.org site ownership.

And the constant mind-dribbles (Aladeen, this thread, random bollocks in various threads).

I mean, c'mon guys. Either act like a corporate entity (some professionalism, the occasional product, some signs of life), or act like interested individuals and be honest. You seem to have taken Amiga.Inc's behaviour as a template for your own.

I truly hope things change in this regard - you clearly have (financial) resources, you clearly have (vague) good intentions with regard to this platform. Use it wisely, behind the scenes if necessary (see Trevor Dickinsons' way of supporting development).
Please, stop trying to showboat when you have nothing to back it up whatsoever. And please stop subjecting us to this 'humour.' Given the history of failed developments for Amiga in the past, you really should know better.

Hilarious! What is X!? "scientific users take note", "you won't have to wait until summer 2010!"

I was referring to the less publicised donating of machines to key software developers, and trying to fund and organise the porting/coding of much-needed infrastructure/software for the platform. Without making a big song and dance about it.
Y'know, actually doing something constructive for the platform. ;-)

@Pyromania

I am trying to be critical in a constructive way. I respect DiscreetFX's long standing promotion of the Amiga in general, and positive moves made in terms of obtaining and open sourcing software.

I do think that DiscreetFX is (or wants to be) a force for good in the Amiga community, and support that aim. Things seem to have been going a bit wrong in the last couple of years I would say though. More honesty would be welcome, get rid of the public cloak-and-dagger stuff, stop Transition/whatever from making some bad judgement calls in the PR department, and *most importantly* concentrate on getting some stuff out of the door in terms of product (code, not repackaged objects like model collections/gifs/croutons/whatever), or stop promoting yourself on the basis that you're actively developing said software, and promote the stuff you are doing.

It's great if you are fostering development of this software, but why the constant news items? Get a blog like anyone else would for minor stuff until you reach some milestone worthy of announcement. I would love to take DiscreetFX's news items seriously, but I just do not expect to find anything worthy of note when I open the click on the 'read more' button anymore. Sorry. :-(

Here is a screenshot from the new and improved classic version:

I was not really supposed to share it due to NDA. I'm probably going to get sued...

Nice bong. :-) Used to have one just like that.

A video showing that the application is not vaporware and is up and running is now available.

This is just a temporary video until the longer more complete video is done.

I'm impressed, and look forward to trying this out - I hope you release a limited demo version. Intuitive model editing tools are a tricky beast to capture: allowing access to powerful tools and modelling methods for flexibility/accuracy, but keeping the interface clean and simple enough for the beginner...

The model preview/edit mode (I assume that's what we're seeing) looks good from an initial glance - always good to see an 'outline' display when rotating/panning dynamically to smooth the model movement.

Wouldn't it be simpler just to get Deron to screen-capture a video from the current development version for you? He would also, naturally, be aware of which aspects to 'show off' in the video.

Am looking forward to the updated 'new' video. :)
