Wanted: OS4 license and/or CD
« on: April 02, 2007, 12:24:03 AM »
I'm looking for someone with a non-functional Amigaone to transfer their OS4 license to me, as I have recently bought an amigaone SE without a license.

If you have a spare license lying unused, or you know someone with a broken Amigaone please get in touch.

Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

Windows-free since 2011-2014 (Damn you Netflix!)

Hi Tomas, that was me in the AW.net thread.

As it transpire I am not able to identify the previous owner - I bought it from JJB at Amiga repair Centre in france, and he said it is aform a batch of boards, and he is not able to identify the owner.
Hyperion suggested that, as it may be from before the days of OS4-bundled-with-Amigaone I need to either find someone with a spare license, or buy the CD standalone.
The only people I can find claiming to stock the standalone CD is Vesalia - at 139 Euro for the developer pre-release.

With the Acube situation developing I'm tempted to "wait and see" with them. If I have to pay that much - more than I've ever paid before for an OS - I want to know:

1) That if my Amigaone breaks I would be able to transfer the license to my CSPPC/BPPC amiga.
2) That what I'm buying is the finished product, not the developer's pre-release CD with the right to login to the download area and download the "final update" version.

For the sake of completeness, the info Hyperion require to transfer an OS4 license is:

1) The serial number of the OS4 CD
2) The Hyperion-entertainment website user name of the previous registered owner.
3) An e-mail from the previous owner authorising the transfer.

Regards

Rich

[EDIT - corrected mistake - requirement 2 is for the Hyperion website username, not the AW.net username as originally stated.]

I wasn't quite expecting this "wanted" ad to turn into a discussion, but such is life I suppose.

I must say, both HJF and TimDG at Hyperion have been extrememly helpful in supplying information regarding the licensing issue, and I have no axe to grind with them. In fact, everyone I've spoken to about it (here, AW.net, ARC, Hyperion) has been helpful, informative and supportive.

If I have to I'll pay full price, at the moment I'm just exploring the logical alternative: looking for someone with a  spare license.

If I end up paying full whack for it, I would want to know that I was buying a full retail version, not an OEM version, and thus if my A1 broke I could then use the license on my CSPPC, but should it come to it this is something I'll discuss with Acube/vesalia/hyperion/whoever. I'm not there yet, and was just musing.

It was my misreading of previous communication which suggested that the AW.net username was required - in retrospect it makes sense that it is the Hyperion username.

Constructive comments are always welcome, but if anyone has an issue with Hyperion and/or AW.net please take it up with them. This is - was - just a simple "wanted" ad.

Contact Vesalia and ask them about it. I actually brought this up some time ago, on AWN I believe, and Vesalia responded that it is due to a limitation of their stocking system that it must appear on the website. But, they don't sell it separately.

That is very interesting if it is the case. I might e-mail Vesalia just to find out.
