i wouldn't have thought so but this was a large chip(by cpu standards today) so i wouldn't be all that suprised if it was.

Hard drives are notorious for producing a lot of heat. unfortunately fans are the only way to knock the temps down. so i would have to agree with your assesment it probably was a ventilation issue. good luck! :-D
