Re: Amiga Friendly Monitor in the USA???

I was looking through this thread and still feel as if this topic is somehow open ended...

I did a search for "monitor" and "LCD display" and still have no idea what I should consider looking for in a monitor that would give me the most bang for my buck with the Amiga. I've got a couple of 1084s monitors and a couple of old VGA monitors that will go down to 15Khz, but I'd like to move up to something more modern and larger. Sure I get the whole indivision thing but, I've got to say that I'm not keen on having to buy one for every Amiga that I have. If I had to I could do this on a couple of them.

If it's out there, I'd rather have one LCD TV or monitor that I could use across all my Amigas.

What is everyone else using? I do a mix of workbench stuff and the occasional game. If there anything that works across the bulk of OCS / ECS / AGA / Other modes, what is it?

Thank you,
AmigaEd

Tread very lightly when looking for an Amiga monitor. I've been burned with at least one monitor that was supposed to sync down to 15 khz and it didn't it's rally trial and error. It blows my mind that in europe folks can go to the local retailer and you get a scart enabled tv.. Problem solved.

you can buy this and use an old VGA switchbox with all your amigas. You will also need one 23 pin to vga cable.

You know, I had looked at that converter once before and had forgotten about it. I guess I'll have to consider it.

Youd think an A600 would be a nice little machine to take to a big retailer and see if they'll let you connect the machine to the various tv's. I tried it once and they told me no way and laughed out loud once they saw the commodore logo and the Amiga logo.

If that had been me, I would know where I would never go shopping again!

Once you get past the 15 klhz issue you have the pal 50hz issue to deal with. LIERBAG here on the Amiga.org forum told me that Phillips montiors will do 50hz in the usa but I have not tried them out.

The information for the converter referenced above states "Automatic 50/60 Hz scan rate conversion to ensure sharp and glitch-free picture display on the monitor or projector."

Perhaps this solves the PAL 50Hz issue.
