My New Platform Game
« on: July 10, 2014, 07:36:29 PM »
Not really sure if this is the right place given the early stages of development, but Ive just finished the tile based scrolling code and its working nicely with some sprites as well.
Looks a bit sparse so far with just a copper gradient in the background, but Im hoping to add some parallax.
What graphics I have done thus far I think look ok, albeit a little generic (what cutsie platformer doesnt though?).

Anyway, without further ado, the very 1st screenshot of what will eventually be my platform game.
Maybe a little premature, but Im having fun and wanted to share it with people, especially after hitting an early milestone. :)

Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

Oops, this was meant to be a normal forum post. It's not really newsworthy yet.
Doesnt really hurt to have it as a news item I guess, but posting it as news was an accident :)
If a mod feels it should be changed though, feel free.

@amigakid

Thanks, and I'll definately keep giving updates.
Probably more often than necessary :)

Thanks everyone.
Im writing it in Blitz. Its technically AGA, but the graphics are designed for OCS/ECS so I'll most likely make it OCS/ECS. Ideally Im wanting to make something akin to an enhanced/tuned AGA version after its finished, but one step at a time :)

Nah, gotta be at least %8.   :) Have to start somewhere though.

Seriously though, the scrolling code does more than just scroll. Ive set up a timer of sorts that gives me 16 "slots" (per pixel) to draw new tiles, control interrupts, update onscreen score display (not implemented yet), and check for collisions. This way I can spread the load evenly. So even though its "just scrolling", its also doing other things.

As for the game itself, its a standard cutesie platformer, but inspired by the master system and megadrive Mickey Mouse games more than anything. The Giana Sister/Mario Bros. style tiles in the screenshot are actually moving platforms.

@thread
Boohoo has linked to this thread via eab so as dismiss me amidst some bizarre tantrum that I still don't understand. Was it 'cos I said his YouTube linked clip was a decent start, albeit not doing much? Was it 'cos I gave him some tips? Was it 'cos I said Reality (game maker made with Amos) is a piece of crap? Its still a mystery :-)

Whatever the reason I'd be interested to see if the link in the eab thread remains. Time will tell :-)

@booboo

Thanks for the promotion.

Here's a small list of some stuff I've actually bothered uploading:
http://archives.aros-exec.org/index.php?function=modules/sql/filesbyuploader&submitter=fishy_fis

I've also sent other work to other people that I've not uploaded elsewhere. Both icaros and aspireos have stuff I've done that I've not uploaded to any repositories amongst other things.

Or how about:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1992

The intention didn't exactly go to plan did it ?  ;)

Next time you want to throw a tantrum perhaps do your research?

You give yourself entirely too much credit.
I couldn't care less about your feelings on the matter.

What I do care about is having you drag me into your tantrums and then me being stripped of the opportunity to respond.
Yes, I am easily distracted, but clearly, as demonstrated in my above post I actually do have some ideas of what I'm talking about, and do contribute.
