The only problems Ive ever had with amiga hardware were self induced (ie. punching holes through them out of frustration with games (the Lion King game cost me quite a bit of money, which is silly for many reasons, not the least of which being that it's not even a great game)). Apart from my own stupdity though Ive never had any major problems, and that's including an a1200+bppc+grex+voodoo3 system, which most people tend to say are problematic (although personally Ive yet to see reasons for this reputation). Granted it's dead now, but that's due to dodgey electricity at my house and rapid power fluctuations (pretty costly night that, wasnt only my bppc+grex that died).
Personally I get more frustrated with the "NG" amiga options.
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

@Franko

I think the potential problems come more from a heavily expanded amiga. Simple accelerator, hdd and optical drive based systems (plus zorro cards if theyre available) are usually nice and reliable. Start adding "hack" based upgrades and things can start being a bit less friendly. Well, that's the general rule of thumb at least. I was a bit more lucky myself, but if friends experiences are anything to go by I was the exception. My grex1200 got pretty hot, but it was quite reliable.

Thinking about it though I did have trouble with my sx-1 module. It'd only detect when it felt like it, and the enable/disable switch did absolutely nothing (it'd still work when disabled, or not work when it was enabled, or vice versa, depending on its mood).

As for retro/not retro, I dont think that's particularly in the eye of the beholder, but rather dictated by the state of current technology. Even the absolute most expanded classic amiga is closer to a commodore64 in terms of spec than it is to anything rleased in the last 5 years. Nostalgia however is more a personal thing.

I am some what of an odd ball in that I don't mind mixing Amiga and Windows programs to get the results I want/need.

It's a bit strange that this isn't usual in my opinion. I too will use the best tool at my disposal for the job, be it Windows, Amiga, or whatever. I dont use Winuae, but am still happy to mix and match software depending on what Im doing.

Common sense it seems isnt common  :-)

hey tension you dont need to get involved or get nasty. Obviously you are pretty low class as well. Go (#*@# off. If you read the the thread your boyfriend there threatened me first, i quoted him in the quote you posted. You should learn to mind your business.

It's a public forum that we all use and try to enjoy, ergo it is anyone who uses it's business when this sort of behavior is displayed. Granted I dont condone the way in which Tension responded, but I do understand why someone might react that way.
While your nickname here is familiar to me I cant say anything you've ever said has stood out, so I can only assume the way you've responded to Franko isnt the way you normally behave, but surely the fact that more people here have reacted to you suggests that you might need to rethink your responses (or retorts as seems more accurate right now).
Having said this though Franko isnt blameless here either (it takes 2 to argue).

As for the money thing, I really couldnt care less how much money someone has or doesnt have (unless they want to give me some :)), but surely common sense says that people who do have money havent gotten themselves in that position by being frivolous with it (at least until theyve gotten themselves comfortable)?
Although I suspect logic and/or common sense have no place in aggressive rants (I know they dont for me)  :)

In conclusion I say, either chill out both of you, or at very least televise the big fisticuffs event.

Try going back to an Amiga 1000, 500, or 2000, then it will be fun again. Whenever people "upgrade" their Amiga computers to be more like a modern PC, that is when they nolonger have an Amiga computer.

Try hooking up a stereo system to an Amiga 2000. Run Protracker, load up some cool mods and "turn up the volume".

Or load up F/A-18 Interceptor and "turn up the volume".

Or hook up a stereo system and cassette recorder to an Amiga 2000, run Protracker and record your favorite mods to cassette tapes, then hook up the cassette recorder/player to your PC sound card's line in jack and record those mods on your PC. Then burn Amiga mod audio CDs and play them in your car while cruzzing. Do not forget to "turn up the volume".

Try watching animations that were created on the older Amiga computers ( pre 1990 ).

Try playing the Amiga versions of Ultima V or VI from start to finish (bet you can not do it). Or try playing the Amiga version of Star Flight, a role playing sci-fi adventure game that took over 15 years to produce.

Try the old Video Toaster 2000 system with the VT 2.0 software.  See if you can do the Star Trek transporter effect.  Make a music video of your friends or family.  Create a short movie or your very own sit-com.

Try Genlocking text and graphics onto your family videos.

DO NOT GIVE UP. There are plenty of things to do on an Amiga computer, just as long as it is not an "upgraded" one. :)

So you're saying that if someone with an a1k/a2k decides to use thier zorro slots they suddenly have a pc ? Some of the most popular zorro based cards are based on "pc" graphics cards (cv64/cv643d/picasso4/etc for example)
