That was..... harsh :)

Anyway my concern with the new "Amiga" is.... if the underpowered/overpriced Sam440 costed more than 800 Euro for a complete system. How much is this new thing which is gonna be uberspecced going to cost? 1500 Euro or more?

In today's market, computer makers dont only compete to make computers better, but also cheaper. So I hope Hyperion will be following that too...

Another thing is that an OS, no matter how powerful the hardware it runs on is, is useless without good software. And with good software I mean commercial software, not linux ports.

"What if this machine comes along doing something that no other machine can do?"

Using which OS? :-)

In all seriousness, does it matter?  An Amiga traditionally is an OS tied closely to hardware so perhaps it does...

Of course it does. Hyperion said it... they are making the most powerful amiga system out there.

So if its an Amiga, its obvious that its going to use Amiga OS (which version, I do not know). Now, lets face it... Whats the point of having a super fast system if the OS is stuck in the 90s?

You mean, like porting 68000 code which uses OCS to a PPC CPU + Video card?

There is no way that would ever happen. If you want that, minimig is a much cheaper, brand new option.

Quoting hyperion:

"We know it means eceptional. Remember when Amiga hardware was eceptional, not just the OS? You won't need to remember much longer. Nemo brings Amiga back to the high-end."

So in other words, it will be up to par with high end 2000 Euro+ PCs? You know, I would have settled for something less powerful, and a matching price.

Whats high end now anyway? 3 SLI Video cards, quad cores, 4 gigs RAM and all that?

"It also means etra. This is where it gets hard to eplain. Let's start with custom chips. Amiga lead the way, everyone else followed. Got a graphics card? Custom chips are standard now. Amiga hardware used to be special, did things other computers couldn't."

So, in other words, the new Amiga will do stuff that current PCs dont? Nice. With which OS?

"That's why also stands for etraordinary, because that time is coming again."

RIGHT.

Something tells me its going to be expensive, and nowhere near current 'high-spec' PCs. I'd love to get this wrong though.

With $400 you get one hell of a PC motherboard.... You think this Nemo thing or whats it called will be as powerful for that price?

Yep, you've made your point now how many times? Buy your freakin' PC and be happy with it already! Nobody is forcing you to buy this new Hyperion/A-EON machine or to even be remotely interested in it.

Your total lack of knowledge about scale of markets offends me to be honest. Do you really not get that when you produce something exclusive in a relatively low volume price per piece will be higher? Or are you just an anti-Hyperion fanboy/troll?

I am not the one saying that its going to be ultimate hardware, on the edge, blah blah... Hyperion are. So whats wrong with comparing it with what's out there already?

Well Hyperion said it, they want to bring Amiga back to its former glory - needless to say its exciting, but there is a LONG way to go.

1. Amiga was affordable - the A500 sold millions.

2. Amiga had awesome graphics and audio capabilities. Through this it was better than anything available in the market.

3. Amiga OS was state of the art for the time.

4. It had great new commercial software coming out for it all the time. After all its the software which makes you buy a system for it, not the OS, or the brand name, to be commercially viable.

I am curious to learn how Hyperion will tackle 1 to 4 with this new machine to bring fun in computing back....

"While the entry level is currently well catered for by ACube's SAM motherboard, it is this return of AmigaOS to the high-end that truly ushers in a new beginning."

If the Sam motherboard's price is considered ENTRY LEVEL.

How much will this new Amiga cost?

I think they should have spent time and money porting OS4 to x86, not to some expensive PPC mobo.

@Crom00

$1000 = 700 euro .....

700 euro isnt enough to buy you a complete Sam440 system, let alone this a-eon thing.
