Surf Squirrel and Amiga OS 3.9 Woes
« on: June 04, 2008, 05:16:14 PM »
Today I got myself a surf squirrel to use with my Amiga 1200.

First I formatted my A1200 and installed Workbench 3.1, then installed the Surf Squirrel drivers and during installation my SCSI CD-ROM drive was correctly detected under squirrel.devices.

I then copied OS3.9 contents to a partition, formatted DH0: and went on to install OS3.9. So far so good.

Unfortunately, when installing the Surf Squirrel drivers under OS3.9, I got to the section where it detects my CD-ROM Drive (just like under 3.1), but I got the 'timer' and it stayed like that :(

When I reset my Amiga, it did not boot, the screen would stay black, with or without Surf Squirrel attached.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Regards

E'Blue

Hi,

This is something to do with the software, not with the surf squirrel itself. EMptying the USER-STARTUP fixed the OS3.9 and now it can boot again, but I cannot get the software to detect the Drive on OS3.9 :(

Thanks DOOG for the link... Now I have sort of fixed the problem, here is what I did:

1. Formatted HDD
2. Installed 3.1
3. Installed SurfSquirrel
4. Edited startup-sequence as suggested in the link in previous post
5. Installed OS3.9 on top of 3.1 (no reformatting)
6. OS3.9 boots fine and CD-ROMs are displayed... except that:

As soon as it loads up it complains that the dock cannot be run because its missing reqtools.library, I installed it manually and then it worked fine. After a while I went to do something else and OS3.9 complained that tool INSTALLER was not installed either, so I also installed that manually from CDROM. I assume that there are other missing files that I will have to find out as time goes by.

How's this happening?

Thanks again!
