That's a stock plug onthe Super-Gen guys....I've long forgotten why so I won't add to any folklore. The cable is fine....it was a hack to overcome an issue but done by an engineer.
Those were the days when you figured a quick way around the problem and shipped!
I thought it was a clumsy hack done by a previous owner - until I saw photos of other units that were exactly the same
