The price would stay high only if people were still under the illusion that they were rare and therefore worth the megabucks. So they would have to keep it quiet if they did so
This card is based on a cirrus logic chipset - these were fairly pathetic cards on the PC side back in the day. You would hope that if someone made a new card they would use something a little more current.
