Note that sometimes it's the bitmap on your hard drive and nothing to do with the network card.  The post talking about rebooting and it working after a reboot is likely due to this, would be my guess.

When you are in Miami and you 'query device', does it allow you to?  If not, then I'd guess the problem would be the hard drive bitmap or something, likely not the x-surf.device.

But also try the MNI driver, although if memory serves, to get the right one you have to download it off the Nordic Global site, because the earlier MNI driver that ships with the Miami package isn't the right one (trust me on this).

the download page is here:

http://www.nordicglobal.com/swdl.html

the link for that driver is 3rd from the bottom in the Miami section, above the Miami Deluxe section.

as to 'fixing' the hard drive, what I'd do first is just turn the machine off for 5 min. or so, letting everything power down and cool off.  Then fire it back up and try again, remembering that AmigaDOS will validate the disk again upon bootup in probably >90% of all cases.

Worst case scenario, use Disksalv or QB Tools to fix the disk but try the reboot, the 'query device' feature in Miami, and the MNI driver first before doing Disksalv or similar.

good luck and keep us posted. :)

Note that also in some cases the X-Surf 'hates' A2000 accelerators - I tried to use one in a couple different A2000s that have accels in them (TekMagic 060/50, essentially a later version of an earlier GVP design) and the computer wouldn't even boot with both cards in the machine at the same time.

So, I just put the X-surf in the A3000 and put the Ariadne back in the A2000 and all was well.
