Hi,

If you look at the Amiga 1000 and then the Amiga 500 you will find that the expansion slot is exactly the same with one exception. The Amiga 1000 expansion is on one side and the Amiga 500 expansion is on the other, now I never tried it, but my friend who had both told me all you had to do was turn them around to use them, don't remember exactly how you turn them, but he said all the pins where the same but just opposite. Leave it to Commodore to screw everything up so you had to buy different equipment to do the same thing.
The reason they went bankrupt is because people got tired of buying new stuff for each model. checked out and went with atari or PC, some even sicker looney people went to Mac.

Hope that answers your question, the expansion port on the A1000 and A500 are the same but they are just reversed.

Hi,

I know it works because my friend had done it, sometimes he had his A500 up on bricks, because of the way the cards had to be plugged in. Just look at the number of the pins on the A500 and the ram expansion board and match, pin 1 should be on pin 1 and pin 86 on pin 86 etc.

By the way I should say this "all responsibility for this act rest soley on your shoulders, since my A500 is up in the attic somewhere and my A1000 is gone, please the research on looking at the expansion slots on both the A1000 and A500 on the old hardware page, before trying this, I have never tried this myself, so I will take no responsibility for an A500 blowout"

sorry but that is the most I can help

When you say "turn around", do you mean simply plug it in on the other side in upright position or flip the unit over and plug it in?

note:  I took a look at the A500 MB and if you are looking directly at the slot, contact 1 is on the far left.  Are you saying that contact 1 on the Amiga 1000 is also on the far left, or is it on the far right?  If it is also on the far left, I would be able to plug it in upright but the front of the expansion would be faced toward the back of the computer.

I really couldn't say since I really have never tried it myself.
