That is pure crap. i like the a1200 a lot but the flagship and most expandable high end amiga is the 4000. Period.

Hi,

@magnetic,

Yes it is a high end Amiga with a high end price to expand it. Like when I bought my Blizzard PPC card for my Amiga's I checked the prices for an Amiga 4000 and found that $!999 for a cheap ppc was just out of my league, so I bought a PPC for my Amiga 1200. Seems like everything I price for the A4000 is at least $500 more.

SUBWAY!!!

:)

Hi,

You should really slow down when eating your subway sandwichs, then you wouldn't choke so much and avoid coughing.

Yeah, nothing worse than a guy who acts like an expert and they dont know WTF they are talking about... i hate that especially for people looking for real answers..

anyway.. u see my sig so usb cd speeds should be cool then?

Hi,

@magnetic,

Yeah, I know what you mean, I really hate people who act like experts and don't know WTF they are talking about especially when people are looking for real answers.

@Franko
Hey thanks for the help you have given me on several occasions, you saved me a lot of reading and looking for my old manuals on the Amiga. I really don't know anything about the Amiga since I have been with it since 2 weeks after the Amiga 1000 came out, but you know Franko, all of us old timers have been helping each other whenever we can. By the way that suggestion you sent me cleared up my new ide cdrom drive, it running like a champ, still looking at that info you sent me on OS4 for my A1200, it seems that when my install starts running the screen was going blank after about 15 minutes of installation, I believe my Power Supply is going bad, for now my Amiga 1200 is off until I get a new power supply set up. Have to go up in the Attic and see if I have any old AT supplies up there, and maybe while I am up there I will look for a digiview for digiman (no I haven't forgot just too much stuff going on, and I hate attics, it's spooky up there, and you never know about that darn madman "Franko" he hides everywhere).

Personally if I wanted an expanded Amiga the model I would choose depends on whether I had a need for 24bit graphics, 16bit sound, VLAB Y/C or VLAB PAR, GVP Impact Vision 24 etc etc or not.

Also the keyboard on the 500 600 and 1200 is quite bad....probably worse than the cheapest PC keyboards I've ever used in my life.

And towering an 1200 is a headache too.[

Hi,

Don't know I towered mine, went pretty smooth, used old server case I had laying around, now I remember why I shut down that server, it had a weak power supply.

I have a lyra 2 keyboard adapter (AmigaKit) works great, and if I wanted I could use expensive PC keyboards on my Amiga. I especially like the one where you could program the keys and program the actual letters and stuff on them, that way you could program a key to have a lit up Amiga "A" key on the keyboard, saving my pennies know for one, they only cost $1500, is that expensive enough for you.

Hi,

Franko,

Are you causing a ruckess again?

Must be a bunch of Irishmen here then.

How did you get that silly red X on your picture?

I made a wee list up at the beginning of the thread on what RedNova should be looking to buy if he really wants to expand his A1200... :)

But we really need to know what he aims to do with it in order to advise him on the best way to go... :)

Hi,

Was this the list you gave him to get him started, I chose 4 of those items off the list myself I sure did. I picked items 3, 4, 5, & 6. Sorry I didn't pick 1 or 2 because I bought my Blizzard board when they first came out.

1. Blizzard060 60Mhz 128MB RAM...
or
2. Blizzard030 50Mhz 128MB RAM...

3. FastATA MKIII Buffered Interface...

4. DVD/CD Re-Writer...

5. SubWay USB Device...

6. Cocolino Wireless Mouse Adapter...

Now the only other thing I did was bought a lyra keyboard adapter, so I could tower my A1200 board, and since I cannot find a Bvision card, I just might swing for a mediator board because I have an old Voodoo board.

Now why didn't I bother to upgrade my A4000, because a PPC board cost about 3 times as much as a PPC board for the A1200, but I did buy a GVP IV 24 board, and a Picasso II board and a Buddha board for my A4000, but I am still using the lowly A3640 card for speed.

Now to magnetic and picture copy matic. Please read the post, and you will find out that Franko was right at his advice. He did not disagree that the A4000 is the flagship of the Amiga's (personally I believe it is the A3000 because even Dave says "Commodore made us butcher the A4000 so that it was half the computer we wanted it to be".

Dave Haynee.

OK, alright.

Personally Id never buy a bppc again and especially an '040 based one. Id prefer an '060 anyday. For classic use the ppc side is very limited plus restricted by the 680x0 cpu anyway, and for an NG option (os4.x,mos) its too slow. Sure the OS may run ok, but what use is an OS when the software runs badly? The only good thing about the bppc when I had it was the expansion connector with which I addeda Grex. Never again would I buy such a system though.

Hi,
@fishy_fiz

I agree, the only thing I use the ppc side for is playing ppcDoom, for some reason OS4.0 won't run on my Amiga 1200 with Blizzard ppc. Still messing with it though. I wish I could find a commercial copy of it, I would buy it in a heart beat. The one I got I found on the net. Probably doesn't work. The only thing that works fine for me is the 68040/40mhz side of the ppc card.
