Hi,

Let me see, I am going to pay $1,198.98 for a 1.1 ghz computer that is running an OS that no one is making software for yet. There is no programing software, no companies talking about making software for it, no one producing a mag for it and then optional accessories are a keyboard and mouse.

My questions are:

If OS 4.0 fails, Is there an alternate OS that can be used on this system?
1.1 ghz is sort of 10 years archaic, are there upgrades.

I know Amiganites are looney, but $1,198.98 is a lot of looney for a 10 year old obsolete processor, with a unsupported OS that no one is making programs for.

So what do I do with this Amazing computer?

Load up the OS and say wow! doesn't that look sharp?
Lets see tomorrow I will load up the OS and see how sharp it looks.
Hey! I will go to Amiga.org and see how many other loonies are loading up their OS and seeing how sharp their OS looks.

Maybe next week Amiga.org will have a contest to see who has the best looking startup screen.

and we get all this for $1,198.00, lets get real, in order to sell something like this, at least to me, the price will have to come down an awful lot. If the price is right, I might buy one for development, but why should I buy a Trojan horse at that price. Sorry Amigakit, there is a lot of computer power I can buy at that price that has supported OS's, with supported software. I am loyal to Amiga, but when I bought my first Amiga 1000 for that price, I saw support from Commodore, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, and various other computer software companies. I saw to Mags (Amigaworld and Amazing Computing) on the shelf.

What are you showing me for that money?

smerf (a real person in a realistic world) not an Amiganite looney

Hi,

@Duce

I know what you mean, didn't know you could run linux on it, I like Ubuntu, but still the price is way out of line, I mean I can run Ubuntu on a 2.4 ghz AMD CPU with a generic or ATI, or NVIDIA  graphics card for less than $350, I just bought a 6 core AMD CPU, motherboard,4 gig of memory, 250 gig hard drive and a 5770 graphics card for less than $600 (590). I am running windows xp on it, but I have had 10.10 ubuntu on it. All I am asking these retailers to do is quit trying to gouge us amiganites and give us a machine at a decent price. I would pay up to $250 for this sam440e computer and that would include cpu, motherboard, memory (at least 2 gigs) graphics card, and hard drive plus a cdrom. If they can't do that for such a slow computer than they are not getting my money, I don't care if they call it the Amiga Obama. I work to hard for my money to be suckered in because they put a boing ball on it. I can get a boing ball insignia made up at work, and I like the color blue thank you.

http://www.os4depot.net mmm... not as much as I would like to see but it's a start. I wish I could argue with Smerf on the points he made but sadly I can't. We need more OS4 software, it's as simple as that I guess.

Hi,

@Tripitaka,

Never knew that this site existed. Looked at the stuff on there, ok, it caught my interest, but not $1,198 worth.  the first thing it should have is a good networking and browsing program then a program like open office, a computer should have a good word processor, database, and spreadsheet program,  drawing, and presentation program and open office has all of this. A drawing program like gimp, and last a good email program like thunderbird. If you notice I am mostly pinging on Linux open source programs, they are free work very well and can be given away with every new computer. This would at least set up a usable computer for who purchases it.

The point I gripe with the most is the cost, tell these wholesalers to go to Newegg and Tigerdirect, look at the old computer hardware they are selling for $200 - $300 and you will see what I am talking about. I may look stupid but I am not a IDIOT.

1.1 ghz -- I bought one of these 10 years ago for $300 with Lindows installed on it when I was going through college studying windows 2000 server, as a matter of fact I threw it out 3 years ago. LOL and now these clowns want me to buy it for $1,198 just to run OS4 on it.

Wake up people, as long as we support retailers like this the Amiga and it's software will always be 10 years in back of times.

Why should I support ancient tech.

Convince me to buy one, better yet send me one for a week and let me write a review on it. The Amiga 1000 salesman did down in  Jacksonville Fla. and guess what, he won.

Hi,

@Franko,

Sad new Franko old friend, my trusty old pal the Amiga 4000 died last night, I was getting ready to load up a game of megaball, when the screen went black, I tried a reboot but it just stays black, the cdrom lights blink, but no floppy drive activity and no hard disk lights. Will go into it tonight and check and see what is wrong, hopefully something simple like a loose accel card or a loose floppy drive cable, don't think it is going to be a graphics problem because my VGA monitor goes from yellow to green on it's on light.

Well anyway the old girl had a very happy useful life since 1992. Have another Amiga upstairs that died like that about 7 years ago. Hope I can repair one with the other.

Speaking of that, I have never lost a hard drive in an Amiga, as a matter of fact one 8 gig hard drive that I have that heats up and stops working in a PC has been working in my 4000 for the last 5 years, but alas the A4000 has quit last night, but I can still hear that 8 gig trying to work inside.
