MiAmigo's Goin' Shoppin'!
« on: September 01, 2012, 08:08:18 AM »
Now that I've resolved my scuzzy problems, I'm ready to put my system back together, put the case back on, and get back to playing some Amiga games.

But FIRST...

I need to do a little shopping. I need a longer 50-pin SCSI cable for my case, so I can move my hard drive AWAY from my power supply, and mount it where I have more space within the case. My current cable is about 26-27 inches long. I found a bunch of longer cables on eBay, and I've also found out that some are 'self-terminating'. I'm assuming the Amiga does not require self-terminating cables, but I'd like to be sure.

I also wonder if there are newer, alternative power supplies for the A2000, or is it a good idea to look into maybe using an ATX-style PC power supply? ATX power supplies, even the expensive ones, tend to be rather, uh, 'crappy' and inconsistent.

Finally, I'd like to put another fan in this case - with all the extra hardware inside it, it could get pretty hot if all that stuff is re-enabled. (I originally ran this system with 0S 3.9, with everything on full-blast.)
:hammer:

Thanks for the input. Think I'll grab a few of these cables from eBay, they're pretty inexpensive and should come in handy for my other Amiga systems.

The power supply thing can wait, for now. I did see some type of Amiga power supply on Software Hut, in two different power profiles. Little bit expensive, but maybe worth it.

Heat may turn out to be a problem for me later on, after I close the case, lots of cards, hard drive, internal CD, two floppies...I'm anticipating some issues if I can't improve the ventilation. (That, plus my workshop is pretty hot this time of year.)

First things first, though - the cables!
