But no, it will not function as a regular power supply (at least, some of them won't). If it has a power switch it might work, but both the ones I have here don't have one. The A590 has a sense line, basically sending a +5V line from the A500 to the A590 power supply telling it to switch on (so in fact it switches on and off together with the amiga). Hooking it up to anything else will not make it switch on.
