the 040/40 is at least twice as fast as 030/40. as to doom and doom II: is far as i remember, my 40MHz 040 was able to drive DOOMs full speed in 320x240 Multiscan VGA mode (using CGX-AGA and FBlit, DoomAttack port with WPA c2p "akiko" routines). Go for 040, don`t buy 030! On 040/40 you can fluently play mp3`s in 22kHz stereo mid-quality, which is imppossible with 030s.
