I've never had an Amiga as my primary computer, but my grandfather had an Amiga 1000 for quite a while. Some time after I left college I got intrested in "fringe" operating systems and started playing with AROS and Syllable. Sometime in this period I picked up an A4000D and a Prometheus PCI adapter to play with. Can't say I did anything terribly intersting with it.
At some point it became clear that while the Amiga and its operating system were special in its day, it doesn't make much sense to use an OS derived from it. Design decisions that made sense in 1985 don't necessarily make that much sense for today's hardware. So I stopped playing with AROS and stopped paying attention to the Amiga scene for the most part.
Hyperion's tease with the A-Eon site got me interested again, but now that the specs have been mostly revealed I doubt I'll be picking one up unless it's a lot cheaper than I expect.
