If the SCSI on your 3000 works without problem it's a waste of $ upgrading to a 08.  I upgraded my 04 to a 08 and had SCSI errors so went back to the older chip. Problems with the old SCSI chip normaly show up with removeable media.

Could be the onboard scsi term on the motherboard or the diodes could be the wrong way round see my (in need of updating :-) ) homepages for details on the diode issue:
