@Cyberus

Being the most despised creature in the universe - a Christian Conservative Republican American, I have to say I do not mind to terribly much. Yeah it does get a bit thick sometimes, and I could do without the profanity (even implied) which is not supposed to be there anyway.  Of course that seems to be coming from both sides.  Most of the members on this forum, when I engage them directly, are civil enough no matter which side of the issue they are on.  Name calling is as much an American tradition as anywhere else.  Much of it is just a defensive reaction that just sort of keeps bouncing back and forth like a pingpong ball.  I must confess I have to bite my tongue sometimes but once I get my tongue sewn back together I'll be fine. :-D  Seriously though, between fur flying, I find some very well reasoned arguments and interesting perspectives.  I am learning to respect many of the members of this forum, no matter where they are from.  It is a very educational experience for me and I place a high premium on education.  It is also a very unique opportunity as I simply cannot afford to cross the ocean and meet people of other nations, even if they did deign to give me, a total stranger, the time of day.  Here I am accepted simply because I have an Amiga and wish to learn. Do not get me wrong, I greatly appreciate your sentiments and admire you for them.  But I have heard all my life that American travellers do act like jerks in other countries and I would like to do a little bit to dispel the belief that we are all like this.
Any obstacle can be an opportunity, try a different perspective.

Cecilia was right about me being ironic in calling my self "despised". Members on this forum have been courteous to me personally.  It is the issue Cyberus brought up that I chose to address. For I am exactly what I said I am.  I do not apologize for that.  But I do understand how the sentiments can arise so I choose not to take offense. (Well, mostly :-) ).  I am a Christian, not because I am a member of a denomination.  In fact I am not, though I do attend a church full of people which I love and respect. I call myself that because I accepted the person of Jesus Christ and I love God. I am a conservative because I believe in paying my own way in life as much as possible.  If you knew my family's history, you would understand why.  My very ability to have and support a family in spite of my past (and present condition) is proof enough to me that God is taking care of me. I also believe in the sanctity of human life, even those not yet born. At one point we were all not yet born, yet which us us would volunteer to be aborted? Millions yearly are not given that choice in my country. I am a Republican because I have read both the Democratic Party Platform and the Republican Party Platform and found out which one I was. Republicans are less likely to despise me for being a Christian. I am an American by birth and citizenship.  This means I partake in races and cultures and governments from all over the world. I try to respect that heritage.  Our government originated in Greece. Our language from Italy, Britain, France, and Germany. Our technology largely from Britain and Germany.  Our basic religious concept and ethical structure from Israel.  Our favorite restaurants from China :-D .  Our number system from the Arabs.  Much of our music from Africa. So many nations have taken a part in shaping the US into what it is that I could not begin to know them all, but I am grateful to them.
