Re: Installing AmigaOS3.9 without a CD

Hi,
in those days I'm also trying to install os39 without a cdrom drive.
My  equipment is:
A1200 desktop + Blizzard 1230 (030'50) + 16MB RAM
A hard disk 2.5" 20 GB
CF to PCMCIA adapter (bought at www.cablematic.com)
512MB CF card

My purpose is to keep the amiga being desktop format but also run os3.9

First I copied the contents of the OS 3.9 CDROM to the CF using a Linux machine, to avoid the microsoft's AUX device issue.

In another amiga, I created an OS3.1 bootdisk with CF device driver and FAT95 lib. (Just take a copy from OS3.1 Workbench disk and delete some utilities to make room for that driver.)

Plug the CF to the amiga using the CF2PCMCIA adaptor.
Boot the amiga using the custom-made os3.1 bootdisk.
Once workbench comes up, an icon from the CF will appear. Double click, look for the installer and run it.
Make the OS3.9 bootdisk with a blank floppy.

Boot the amiga with the just created os3.9 bootdisk and run hdtools to partition the HD.
Then install OS3.9

WOuld be a great thing if the major shops (ASB, amikit...) sold a "No-CDROM solution":
 - 512MB CF card with OS3.9 installation
 - CF2PCMCIA adaptor
 - OS3.9 boot floppy

cheers!
