Creating a 2D game
« on: October 30, 2008, 06:32:40 AM »
I'm thinking about a new project, a serious one, to hopefully make a little bit of extra cash. It's gotta be fun for me, with no additional support afterwards. I'm thinking about making a 2D platformer game. I'm unemployed, and I'm on a benefit for mental health issues. I could work on this project in my spare time. Once it's mature, I might ask for some professional graphics guys to do some serious graphics to replace the stick figures I will create myself for testing.

The point of this post is this: I'm wondering.. is there room on the market for a 2D style game in 2008/2009? I thought a handheld device like PsP might be more acceptable for such a game. I know there were quite a few of these style games like Crash Bandicoot on Gameboy advance a few years ago.

I havent been into games for a long time, so I'll work with my brother to help come up with fun "elements". Little things that make a fun game. I.e. picking up weapons, missions, etc.

My programming skills are basic, but I believe I could figure out a good engine for a 2D game once I have the concept nailed down for what I want to do.

If I get a fun game made, I wonder if I could find a publisher for it..

I'm thinking of Nintendo DS. I've emailed the developer people to ask about it. Hopefully the development hardware wont cost too much.
