Setting up a Seagate ST31055N in a GVP A530
« on: April 15, 2017, 10:04:57 AM »
I'm trying to setup a Seagate ST31055N in a GVP A530 but am unable to get Fastprep to see the drive. The A530 is plugged in to an A500(+?) with Kickstart v37.175 (2.04) and the drive that came with it works without issue (a Quantum Prodrive ELS 170S).

I've tested both drives in WinXP using an Adaptec AHA-2940W without issue or any change in configuration, i.e. no change in termination, both SCSI ID 0.

With the Quantum, I can boot from the GVP.Install floppy disk and Fastprep can see the drive. With the Seagate installed, the system won't load WB from any disk unless I disable Autoboot on the A530 (jumper J9 open).

Is the Seagate just not compatible or am I missing something?

Step 1: Stop using FaaastPrep.

Step 2: Use the latest version of HDtoolbox.

Noted. Ta. Will probably try prepping it in WinUAE.

You're saying with the replacement drive installed and the autoboot jumper on, the system will not boot at all? Even from floppy?

Correct, not even from floppy. Also, I've now realised that all the drive jumpers are missing so I can't enable termination. Weird that it works connected to the PC but not the A530, though.
