Thanks for the information guys. From this thread I was able to accure the parts needed to duplicate this upgrade for one my A500s. I am new to the Amiga scene although I have known about the A500 since it was first introduced. Now I am getting the bug to gather more parts and additional systems to tinker with on the weekends; it's a great hobby!  :-D

I am looking at picking up an ICD AdSpeed/Aide2 card and since this doubles the CPU and enables a HDD for the A500+. I wondered if you installed ROM 3.1 in and added an AD540 with 4MB RAM would that meet the requirements for installing OS3.5? (Provided you network the A500 to a PC to use the CDROM drive for installation.)

Maybe this is an easier question: Can a Blizzard 1230 interface with an A500+??

Thanks Cyberus, I am learning by the hour here. There is an acellerator for the A500 by Blizzard, but I was not aware at the time of how many flavors there are in Blizzard boards. Now I am into the A1200 and will not look to max out A500s any more than with an AdSpeed, MegaChip and an internal HDD.

I have just installed the AIDE2 adaptor to an A500 ver 6A with 2.1 ROMS and it boots to the ROM screen fine. But when the ICD HD Prep is executed the program fully recognizes the Toshiba 2.1GB drive specs, but when AutoPrep or Partition button is clicked, I get the following error messages:

"Resulting partitions would be too small." Press Ok.

Then:

'ICDPrepHD'
Program failed (error # 80000005)
Wait for disk activity to finish. Press suspend or Reboot.

Both options cancel the program or boots me out with the red software error screen.

I have had the same results with TWO separate (same specs)Toshiba drives and get the same results. What I am doing wrong? :-?

Thank you for your help guys.

Hey TjLaZer,

Yes, bro I am in the Army and I was last stationed at Ft Lewis which I suspect you are now located. We loved Washington for the three years we were there . Mt Rainer stole my heart. I hiked the Wonderland trail the last summer I was there it was so beautiful. I took up SCUBA diving with the guys in Ray James' shop and since I have been in Germany I have only had one dive and that was in a lake; sad compared to the Puget Sound. 15 months in Iraq put diving out of commission for sure. I have a closet full of SCUBA gear and can't wait to get back to the States next spring to get back in the water. Not sure about returning to Lewis though. Chances are I would end up in one of the Striker Brigades and be back in the sand box in no time. Completed 20 years this month and looking to serving one more tour in the States when we leave here. I picked up on working with Amigas the past month and enjoy it immensely since I am a tech it is fun to tinker again.

Now as for AIDE2 configuring my drive, I did get one instance where the program stated my 2.1GB drive was only 85MB. I reset the 500 and then I got 0MB. So I got frustrated, rebooted and kept the standard settings without using the auto congig and then 2.1GB showed up. As I continued to partition then I got the above messages. It is frustrating but in a good way because once solved the victory is sweet, but you guys already know this. Any other advice?

The best,

-Ken

Yes, I have two each 2.5" 2.1GB Toshiba notebook HDDs and I get the same results from each, either 2.1GB w/errors or 850MB w/errors or 0MB w/errors. Sucks, but the effort is worth it.

I finally got the program to partition one of the drives but the best I could get was letting the program determine my 2.1GB drive is 850MB. Now I wonder if it is possible to go back into the process to see if I could get more partitions, however I suspect I will lose the WB 2.1 installation on the drive now. Any suggestions?
