AmiTCP
« on: February 09, 2006, 07:13:15 PM »
Hi

I'm having troubles getting AmiTCP setup but I think I'm almost there.

I've got it setup to the point that I want to try and ping something, but when I do (or ping the amiga from another machine) it doesn't work and I get this from the log.

Thu Feb 09 19:09:07 2006 [err  ]: from address: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx!!
Thu Feb 09 19:09:08 2006 [err  ]: An ARP packet sent as: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:XX

I get a long list of these, the numbers change, I guess their the mac address so I've x'ed them out.

Any ideas what is going on an what I may have done, all I'm trying to do at the moment is use ping.

(A1200, with 68030, AmigaOS 3.0 and an NE2000 PCMCIA NIC)

In the past, I have used this NIC successfully with Miami and cnet.device, it's just that I get errors installing MUI so I wanted to try AmiTCP.

I'm still using the cnet.device SANA-II driver this time arround

I'm using AmiTCP 2.2

Here's the output

ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCGIFFLAGS): no such interface

On a CD-ROM, I've found that I have a copy of AmiTCP 3.0 beta 2, shall I try that instead

right getting there.

on bootup it doesn't work at all.

only after adding to interfaces:

net dev = devs:networks/cnet.device

and after first boot writing in the shell:

ifconfig cnet0 192.168.1.155 255.255.255.0

can I even ping anything.

I can't ping anything on the net (I have a router), also Amiga Explorer doesn't work, I get "Error initalizing socket connection"

What am I doing wrong?

If you can ping your other computers in your network but you cannot ping outside, you probably have to set one or more DNS IP-addresses. These Domain Name Servers (ask your ISP) convert names of websites to IP-adresses.
I have AmiTCP version 4.3 and I do that with the configuration program that's installed when you install the AmiTCP package.
Do you have such a configuration program?

I do and I've put in the DNSs, but I can't even ping the DNS servers.
