Washed out red on SCART

Hi

When I connect my A1200 to a TV vire the RF modulator or the composite cable, all is fine.

When I connect it to any TV vire my RGB->SCART cable, reds are very washed out. On it's hard disk is a very old version of wordworth (I've recently got it second hand) and using it's palette dialog, when the red slider is moved nothing happends. When red is full and green and blue are down what should be red goes black. Interestingly the blue of windows are correct and whites are white etc but the mouse pointer is grey.

Is this a problem with the RGB->SCART cable, which is connected to the monitor connector, or is there something wrong with the Amiga?

BTW I don't have a monitor to test the monitor port on, or another cable (at the moment at least).

BTW The red is washed out not just on the hard disk workbench, but also floppies and games.

I havn't got any instrumentation but there are no loose wires, there are 6 video wires going from the RGB connector to the scart.

then the custom chips are fine as it splits straight off from the DAC to either the Comp/RF output or just out to the video connector, it must be the lead surly?....

Do you have a switcher box inline with your TV and Amiga?

Nope

I know those little flat pins in the Scart sockets can push in, bend
or their solder come loose. Try testing Pin-1 with Pin-1 on the other
end with the speaker-bleep continuity test on a good LCD electrical
tester.

hmm I don't have anything like that but anyway, it's wiring is pretty primative as my VCR won't accept it (blank screen).

If RF and Composite are okay then the custom chips must be supplying
the RF modulator with the correct colours so either your 23-pin video
port is damaged/dirty or it's the cable.

What's the likelyhood of this happening? The rf shield was pretty grimy (must have been in storage for a bit) but the PCB is surprisingly clean. Actually dirt could be why the disk drive seems a little suspect.

Another story here, I once sent an X-Box back to Microsoft's repair
centre three times (adamant that it was not outputting colour via
RF/Composite). Turned out the battery backup in my TV had died and
wasn't remembering the colour/contrast settings, but of course RGB
cannot be modified.

All tested on TVs under a year old.

I've tested it on my pairents widescreen TV and the colour was fine although only in 4:3 and often rolling.

Still if it was the amiga, the colours would still be messed up, so it must be the cable.
