Re: Palms woes compared to Amiga

I'm still using my Sony CliƩ Peg-TJ27 (Which is PalmOS, if not a Palm), and LOVE it. Having a severe case of ADD, this thing keeps track of minute details my brain seems to skim over. When the battery dies (an unfortunatly common occurance, considering its age), I feel like I've lost an organ. :-D Before the CliƩ, I owned a Zire 71 (which I liked better, actually) that got killed while I was jackassing about with my drunken buddies. (Got thrown against a brick wall, the thing was in my pocket) Before that, I had a Palm M130, which had gone through hell. Unfortunately, it didn't make the trip back more than once. The M130 had a very rigid plastic stylus, which had a habit of carving the screen beyond any usability. Between that, and having Bejeweled on there on a Navy ship, all my buddies would play it when I was on watch or something. Bought a replacement screen, and a rubber-tipped stylus for it, but lost the power cradle. Oh well...
Anyway, My PDA talks to my Amiga via Subway USB, though the hotsync software is kinda difficult to set up. Also, I can "mount" the memstick as an Amiga device, making downloading stuff (mostly off of Freeware Palm) extremely convenient. I don't think I'm allowed to post anything approaching the length required to convey how useful this thing is! :-D
Unfortunately, it seems to be a general pattern with technology. Some ingenius device is developed (Amiga, Palm, countless others), then gets in the hands of some corporate panel that waters it down, dedicates it to what they believe will sell, and limits it to whatever that belief is. PDA's got turned into cell-phones, glorified mp3-players, and useless battery/money eating carp that I would never really want. (I had the joy of using an Ipod Nano on my Amiga, because my sister-in-law wanted to download some music off of my HD. Apparently it did something to her online music account) Anyway, I'm starting to rant now, so I'll just hit "Submit" and spare everyone the drama of the remaining complaints. :-D
