I found a null modem cable, but to my dismay my home built PC doesn't have serial or Parall ports because I never tought I'd use them.  Oh well, I'll look on Ebay...but the way thanks for the amiga forever tip, I got think client side for the pc I think.

I think they make USB to dbn-9 adapters, though a USB to rs-232 might be more convenient depending on how your null-modem is wired. (9-pin to 25 pin adapters are pretty cheap, Radio Shack used to have them). Also, if you wanted to upgrade that thing, the biggest probs. you might have are finding HD controllers and CPU upgrades. Memory could be an issue, too. Thrift shops otherwise have alot of older electronics that are compatible. St. Vincents not so much, but you get lucky sometimes. Goodwill is a better bet. (I once found an A500 w/ GVP SCSI sidecar at Vinnies!) As for transferring files, you will probably have to LHA the .adf file to xfer via floppy. The 500 can only read 720K  pc floppies, while ADF's are (I believe) uncompressed and will take 880K of space. zipitfast supports LHA in windows, the Amiga version of LHA is available on Aminet, I believe. You'll have to either use a DD floppy, or put scotch tape over the second hole in an HD foppy (which isn't terribly reliable, but should work fine for temporary purposes). PC-Side, you probably would have better luck using format via command prompt. (format a: /S720 would format a DD MS-Dos disk, especially if you use the scotch tape trick) Then you just need a proggy that dumps an adf file to df0: (with a blank disk in df0:, of course)

While I'm in the US, and really just north of the border, I'm also a considerable distance west. (I make cigarette runs to Orangeville all the time, as Wisconsin is taxing the HELL out of 'em up here) Probably not a convenient situation for running "sneakernet" (And I HATE driving in Chicago, anyway. My wife doesn't, but I lost my blindfold...)
