I've been doing that too, the colder the better I find at the moment.

water will wash out the toxins from the cigarettes - and really necessary thing if you want to quit. eating alot of sweets will just get you fat. not a good substitute if the goal is to get healthy.

it's more insidious than other drugs (not that i have personal experience, of course)
