Directory Opus 5.5Magellan2 problem
« on: March 07, 2007, 09:54:04 PM »
So I searched for keywords like "Directory Opus" and "Uninstalling Opus" and "Problems with Opus" and didn't find anything. But I tried!

Ok, so I haven't owned an Amiga since 2000, until I got my hands on an A1200 and an A4000 last year.

I kept VERY few Amiga related items over the course of the last 7 years. Mainly my retail software like iBrowse, IDE Fix '97, MUI, Miami and Directory Opus 5.5 Magellan 2. (And a few games)

I of course only have a small box of disks and no boxes. This was no problem for all my other software as they all have a key file registered to me with them.

Opus wants the serial number off the back of my box!

I installed the 5.5 disks (2 of them) and it was fine. Once I installed my Magellan II disk it replaced my workbench even though I'm fairly sure I told it to do NOTHING! (I even ran the installer a second time to change my startup options and it STILL replaced my workbench.)

So:

A: I would like to uninstall it and get my actual workbench back. :(

I only found one refference to Opus in my User-Startup and that was just a path statement. I also checked my Wbstartup folder and found nothing there. How do I remove opus or get it to NOT run at startup?

B: Is there someone left from the original development team I could contact to get my license code back? I looked at the GP Software web site and forums but don't see anything there about Magellan or Amiga use. (Other than a few minor mentions in the forums.)

Mostly I'd like to get my Amiga BACK from Opus currently.

Thanks!

No way really?!?!?! arg!

That would require me to acquire some method for accessing a CD-ROM from my A1200 :(

Why doesn't re-running the installer and selecting to NOT replace my workbench work? :(

Holy cow...

I just have to say. I work in the Info Systems dept as a desktop engineer dealing with software vendors and dealers, and we carry support contracts with these people that run up to the 5 digit range per year...

And they aren't half as useful or helpful as you guys at AmiKit are.

That's no joke.

I can't wait to have some Amiga hardware/software needs.

I look forward to supporting you guys soon.

Thanks for the quick helpful response!!!

hehe, I think you confuse me with www.amigakit.com  :-P

Oh, I see now, you're the Emulator group! well sheesh.. I guess that means there are two amazingly helpful groups out there.

Thanks again! :)

If I ever blow the dust off my Amiga Forever version 1.0 CD and find it not suiting my needs I'll give you a call ;)

Also holding down the left shift while booting will stop Dopus from loading and load the old WB.

Ironically enough, the left shift key is the only key on my A1200 keyboard that appears to NOT work hehe.

I can't seem to locate Loadwb_old in my C: directory, and running a search doesn't appear to be pulling it up either.

At a bit of a loss as to how to get my WB back. (Running another wildcard search on the Miggy now, will update if I find it.
