Re: Welcome to the A600GS forum

Hello everyone, and congratulations on this amazing forum.
I'm completely new to the Amiga world, well, sort of. I had an A500 about 35 years ago, and recently, thanks to nostalgia and the fun I’ve had playing with WinUAE, I discovered the great A600GS.

I’m just a casual gamer, so please excuse me if I ask simple questions. Unfortunately, I no longer have my original hardware, and I apologize for that.

I’ve been struggling with two specific titles: Nuclear War and Sensible World of Soccer 96/97.

I have the original disks (including the base version of SWOS that is required to launch the 96/97 version), but I’ve also tried several ADF versions I found online, with the same results.

With Nuclear War, I just can’t get it to run. It always ends up throwing block read errors, whether I use my original disks or the ADFs.

With SWOS 96/97, I manage to get into the game, but when I go into Career Mode and select a team, the game freezes or glitches badly. I'm pretty sure I’m doing something wrong, but the strange thing is, the same ADFs work fine on WinUAE. So I really don’t understand what I’m missing here.

Maybe my original disks are too old to be reliable, which is understandable. But even with the ADFs I have, I’m not getting better results.

I’ve tried using different profiles like A500 and A500+, but the result is the same. Actually, when I try A600 or other emulations, things get even worse, and I don’t even make it to the selection screen sometimes.

Is there anyone here who could help a beginner like me figure this out?

Thanks so much for your time, and I wish you all a fantastic day!

Hi dear @SkulleateR ,
Sorry, I’m a total beginner…
   1.   When I set up the A600GS, I imported all the ROMs from Amiga Forever Plus (I have a valid license).
   2.   I tried selecting A500, A500P, A600GS, and A1200 from the dropdown menu — same results with different errors, but none of them work.
   3.   Other games work amazingly well! I can play Arkanoid, all the Pinball Fantasy/Dream games, Super Cars, Lotus, RVF Honda, and so on. (some are original floppies, some are ADFs) It’s just those two games that I have no chance of getting to run.
   4.   I tried using a home-built Drawbridge, and also some ADFs downloaded from the internet that work fine in FS-UAE and WinUAE.
   5.   I’m not familiar with Greaseweazle… sorry! I do not have one...but I can buy one.
   6.   Yes, I understand, but I don’t think the issue is with the floppies… at least I hope not.

Do you happen to have valid ADFs I could try for those 2 games, or do you have a chance to try if they work on your? Because as I mentioned, all my other games work great — even Pinball Fantasies with the 3 disks, where course data is on disks 2 and 3...etc..

Mmmm, good question!
I've never tried that.
I just saved all the ROMs from Amiga Forever into a folder, and during the import, I simply clicked and imported them — nothing more.
How can I correctly import all the ROMs from Amiga Forever into the A600GS?

Are the kickstarts actually working? are they still encrypted?

You could try creating a blank custom config, set to A500 and see if it boots to 1.3 kickstart screen, when run.

It is not working!
It appears a screen of AROS: "Waiting for bootable media"
mmmm how can I install my roms from Amiga Forever? There is a guide?

I found that the ROMs from Amiga Forever are not recognized by the ROM Import software, except for:
aros-20221128.rom
aros-20221128-ext.rom

All the other ROMs are not showing up.
I took them from the Amiga Forever directory:
Amiga Files -> Shared -> ROM

I have a valid Amiga Forever Plus license, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Any idea how to fix this?

I have Amiga Forever Plus version 10 and I’m using a Mac.
I’m a bit confused because the rom.key file is a text file — its content isn’t a key, but rather a descriptive text file.

I also tried using the decryption method that’s been described, but it’s not working. I compiled the tool, but it’s not creating an output file.

Is version 10 encrypted in a different way?
Or am I doing something wrong?

Interestingly, inside the key file it says:
Amiga Forever ROM Key 11.0

It works!!
I decrypted the ROM using the C file from here:
https://github.com/abcbarryn/decrypt-amigaforever?cmdf=decrypt-amigaforever

Now it’s loading the ROM with the correct machine and Kickstart — THANK YOU!
I also solved the issue — Nuclear War and Sensible Soccer are working now!!!

Thanks again for the tip!

Yep, I hadn’t imported those two :)
And yeah, since it couldn’t find the ROMs, the system fell back to the AROS ROMs. Now everything’s running smoothly—so much so that I’m enjoying it like crazy!

I love the A600GS!!
