I don't see why you can't use the Toaster in an A3000D.  Plenty of people have, and still do.  The Toaster fits into the video slot in the uppermost slot of the daughtercard.  You need to insulate the underside of the case cover to prevent shorting the Toaster but other than that, the three ZorroIII slots below are still available.  Granted, putting a fan in is not a bad idea.

Forget about stupid slow zip chips.  Get your hands on a Cyberstorm Mk2 (check serial #) or Mk3 and pop that baby in the A3000 for a real boost in speed w/128mb of fast simm memory.  You can mount a small fan on the 68060 if you're really worried about heat, or cut a small square hole in the drive tray above the 68060 and mount a heatsink.  The metal drive tray of the A3000 is supposed to act as a bit of a heat sink for the machine anyway.
