I have an 18G 80pin drive on my A4000's TrexxII controller (it uses the same NCR chip as the Warpengine, iirc).  Works like a charm.  iirc you set the scsi id number and termination using the little daughterboard 50pin/SCA-80pin adaptor.  You probably also have to use an active/passive terminator at the ends of the scsi chain. In my case, the GVP has active termination on the board itself.
