I had exactly the same problem last week. My machine would show fatal error (Line 3) when trying to launch the install script of BB1 (curiously not with BB2). Just edit out the first few lines of the install script file that installer uses to open a custom screen for the install (I think it's lines 3-9 if I remember right). After that, installer will just open a small window on the workbench desktop and it will install itself nicely.
