Hello,

I've a technical question. On a MiniMegiChip: is it possible to remove the AGNUS - NTSC version (8375VBB  318069-11) by the Pal version (8375VBB  318069-11 on a socket ?

Thanks you for your answers.

Should work.  The chips are interchangeable as far as I know, unless there is a timing issue and a different clock crystal might be needed.

Yes. Done it myself with a MegAChip.

NOTE: VBB is not part of the chip code, it's just 8375.

NOTE: I think you meant 318069-10 for the PAL one right?

A little easier on the MegaChip since it already had a socketed Agnus chip, didn't it?

Oki, but how to remove the NTSC chip ? I've no tools !

Don't try to remove it, send the whole board to kipper2k to have the work of removal and replacement done.

Yup. 2 seconds with the PLCC remover. Wince at the sound of cracking plastic because it is so brittle after all these years and plop. Shove the new one in the right way round and voila.

I almost hate to admit this, but with my first A2000 when I bought a DKB MegaChip I didn't have a PLCC remover and looked on the Internet for other ways to remove the existing Agnus chip.  The only thing I could find was one guy who had success with drilling a small hole through the bottom of the mobo so the Agnus chip could be pushed out.  I had not been in possession of my used A2000 for very long and it took a lot of guts for me to take a drill to it, but it worked.  I did not know where to get a PLCC remover in those days and was too impatient to wait for one that would take a week to get by ordering it.  I do not suggest that this method be used in these days when it is easier to find a PLCC remover, and quicker mail service can get you one from a fellow Amiga user to borrow so your wait to get one is not long if you can't find one local to you.  In fact I have two of them now if anyone needs one.

I'm sure you can find PLCC removers, but Amiga Kit sells them as well if you need. I purchased one from them with my MegIChip. Makes things real easy.

He has a MiniMegaChip that has a surface mounted Agnus, not a socketed Agnus that can be removed with a PLCC remover.  He should just send it to someone that can remove it and replace it with a socket if the socket will fit on the board then he can install and remove/replace what ever Agnus he wants to use any time.
