NEW! A1000 Phoenix boards
« on: August 30, 2006, 03:28:59 AM »
Did I get anyones attention?

How many of you would be interested in purchasing an A1000 Phoenix replacement motherboard if a new production run could be arranged?

If I knew how to set this up as a Poll here on A.org, I would, but I don't.

I am not saying I have any inside information that this can be done, but if there is sufficient interest, I will make every effort to make contact and make it happen.

I will be the first to say I want one.

Who else?

It is my understanding that the custom chips can only come from existing systems, or dealers that have stock of old chips.  I have to do some more research as to which Agnus chip will work, but I believe that the square shaped one from the A500, A2000 and A3000 is the one needed, in 1mb or 2mb (fatter and fattest Agnus) versions.  I think the rest of the parts needed are still available from what has been said in that other A1000 Phoenix thread.

I have no idea what the cost will be, but the last run was reasonable, so if we can get 50 to 100 people interested, and/or a couple of the few remaining dealers, we should be able to justify the production.

Software Hut, Amiga Kit, Vesalia????

I don't think this will be worthwhile with just 10 or 15 interested buyers.

If I could get all the needed custom chips from somewhere then I'd say yeah.. But I don't have an A1000.. and if I did I'd want it in orig condition... But I WOULD like a phoenix system.. lol

You can find A1000 systems quite cheap and sometimes free if you look hard enough and in the right places.  As for keeping it in original condition, that is great if you are a collector (like me) and want to put it on a shelf and only use it once or twice a year, but with the cost so low to find them, get two and just keep one stock.

@McTrinsic,

My idea was to get enough people interested and approach Andrew to do it again.  It would have to be easier the second time around for him than for someone to try and duplicate his effort as a first attempt.

I may be too optomistic, but I really think we could find between 50 to 100 interested users/buyers, and I would bet that a few dealers would be willing to commit to buying several boards for resale, if they can make a small profit from the effort.

I just hope that Andrew will agree to build the new boards if there are enough buyers to make it worth his time.

@bigmac,

Some of us might not mind spending enormous amounts of hand assembly time to "do-it-ourselves".

I have also sent you pmail.
