Hello Sparky in New Zealand!  One of the most beautiful places on the face of this earth and home of some of the friendliest people too.

What are you using your A1000 for, just old games?  If yes, your speed problem is more likely a problem of waiting for the floppy disk drive to read/load data to RAM.  The solution to that is a hard drive controller, not an accellerator.  If you are trying to use the A1000 for anything serious, you would be better off looking for a later model Amiga like the A3000 or A4000 which can be expanded to do almost anything you would want to do with any computer.

@ KThunder,

I totally agree, the A1000 was my favorite design with the keyboard garage.  I still have mine w/Spirit Insider 1.5mb RAM expander, 105mb HD inside where DF0: used to be, and a Kwikstart ROM switcher.  I have not fired it up in years but will get it out again some day.  I also have another A1000 that was given to me that I plan to gut and build into a WinUAE super emulated Amiga like Kermit from Nova Designs did a couple of years ago (only better).

@ Effy,

It will look just like it does on the A500 and stock A2000 w/68000's, s l o w . . . . . yawn!  Personally, I don't know why anyone would want to run anything past 1.3 or 2.04 on a stock A1000.  Enjoy it for what it is and modify the heck out of your other Amigas to do the heavy computing work/play.

Patrik, You are right, I was thinking of 3.9, not 3.1.

But then most old programs that were written for 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 don't run well or at all on 3.1 or higher.  My point is that if the A1000 is still stock, no hard drive or accellerator, what good is it to run 3.1 or higher with those old floppy disk programs.  Maybe I am wrong and there is benefit?  If the original poster installs an accellerator in his A1000 he will be able to run whatever Amiga OS he wants (except 4.0, unless he can figure out a way to install a PPC)

The stock A1000 doesn't even have a ROM socket and to my knowledge there are no 3.1 Kickstart floppy's available because 3.1 can't fit on one 880kb disk, can it?

For me, the A1000 is just for old programs and games, but that is just me.    :-D

Well, at the risk of being a "chat box" too, I'll ignore narayan's comment about who I can be friends with and also say that I am sure that with a little work, any Amiga can be programmed to turn on the coffee pot, or what ever he said it can't do.  I remember some software and hardware module switches to turn on and off electronic devices that were compatible with an Amiga controller shareware/freeware program.
