You choose the next Amiga items to be X-rayed...
« on: May 17, 2007, 10:57:28 PM »
Well, I have a few tests to do with some image plates. One of them is a sharpness test for a film scanner. So I have the opportunity to X-ray some Amiga hardware. Now I am going to let you choose which two of these I X-ray. Bear in mind that I may not get the chance to do any more of these, so choose wisely:

1) [d]PIV[/d] (Goes to Tigger)
2) DKB3128 (has 4 SIMMS on board).
3) Technosound sampler, Vidi24RT digitizer and Commodore 030 card.
4) Cyberstorm PPC/060 .
5) RF Modulator, A4000T AV module and a few 72 pin SIMMs.

Those are the items that will fit on the plate I am testing. Photos of all these items are already in the photo album, in case you don't know what they are.
Some of the choices involve multiple items because they are small enough to X-ray on one plate together. Note that the PPC card has a non-standard fan held in place by Pratley's putty, which may spoil the appearance of the card on X-ray. I don't know what the radiological density of the putty is.

Okay, now to make it interesting...the first person to vote in this thread will automatically get his/her choice as number 1. I will give that person the X-ray and they can choose whether to put it in the photo album or keep it for themselves. Number 2 I will tally votes and it goes in the album.

Don't say I don't do nothin' for y'all. I cater for the greedy and the curious  :-D

Okay, Tigger, you get the PIV X-ray. The rest of you can vote for the other choices.

@ alexh

"...Becareful X-raying anything with flash and ESPECIALLY EPROMS as they will erase..."
----------------------------------------------------------

If that was the case, then you wouldn't be able to ship any of those components internationally, as they are all X-rayed. All items sent in the Royal Mail are X-rayed, so second hand components would be erased too. I have yet to see any computer hardware (programmable or not) that can be damaged by X-rays in the diagnostic range (maximum of 150 kilovolts, electromagnetic).

@ Lurkist

Check my pictures in the album.

@ Pedro

That was a Cyberstorm MK II, not PPC.

So far the Cyberstorm PPC looks like a winner. I'll wait until Monday morning before I tally the votes.

"...I vote for Bloodline's sock. Failing that, Karlos' hand..."
-----------------------------------------------------------

Negative on both counts. Firstly Bloodline's sock is a biohazard. Secondly it is probably too dense to X-ray by now. As for Karlos's hand, he already broke his wrist just so that he could get an X-ray of it and post it on Amiga.org  :-P
IIRC it had a Burberry-textured scaphoid too.

@ Frags

"....It`s a pity you can`t do the AGA chips - that would be dead cool...."
--------------------------------------------------------

I have an X-ray of my A4000T mobo somewhere. If I can find it I'll put it in the album.

@ Sir Inferno

"...ah, as opposed to non-electromagnetic gamma rays?..."
---------------------------------------------------------

No, as opposed to gamma rays and particle-based radiation, period. Gamma rays are part of the electromagnetic spectrum but they are of a much higher energy than X-rays. And particle based radiation is a whole different animal.

Thanks, I like it too. It has a certain 'something.'

Now on another note, I have some other test images here (a mouse, a telephone, a folded umbrella, a floppy disk, a pair of scissors and a mobile phone).
If there is any interest, I'll post the floppy and the mouse in the photo album.

Next person to post in this thread gets the image with all the items.

I have one more pic to give away. The next poster in this thread gets it. I might as well tell you what it is. Can you tell by the thumbnail?

Thanks for uploading that, Argo.
Roadrunner gets the big picture.
That will be the last of the Amiga X-rays, at least for some time.
